A great loss to the 3 of you who actually skim this site, but unfortunately I have realized that I am no longer able to give notthebees the attention it deserves, and therefore won't be doing all that much with it going forward.

My original desire for it to become a nexus of film discussion, at least locally, never really came to fruition; thus, the site became a graveyard for sloppily hurried transcripts of what I thought was notable about certain films.

If you care, please go back and browse the "archives."  Most of what we reviewed is still probably newly on dvd or soon-to-be; so the reviews can be used in determining your Friday night rental.

Thanks for your comments, encouragement, and thrashings.

And as for you readers, you correctly chose 5 of the 9 categories you were able to vote on in the notthebees reader poll.  Not too shabby...

It's that time of year again.  The time when everyone is sick of discussing who got snubbed, and just wants to find out who will win at the 83rd Academy Awards.  But before we get to that on February 27th, you know we have to get our Oscar Winner Picks in!

Last year, Emanuel took the prize, correctly guessing 13/24 categories.  This year, notthebees has enlisted a panel of... we'll call them "experts," to make their educated guesses as to who will be bringing home a golden statue, that Lindsay Lohan will eventually steal and pawn for coke.  Alongside the panel's picks, we've included the results of the Notthebees Reader Poll so you can see how YOU chose in comparison.

So, without further delay, we present to you... the experts:

Last night the Green Bay Packers won the Super Bowl; but more important were the 30-second movie spots that premiered during commercial breaks.  Headlined by the first footage from this summer's Captain America: The First Avenger, the trailers showed the country what Hollywood has in store for movie-goers this summer.

I've included the ones I care about after the jump:
  • Super 8 - JJ Abrams' newest; supposedly about area 51.
  • Captain America: The First Avenger - Chris Evans brings the patriotic superhero back to the big screen.
  • Thor - My guess is that this is better than Captain America.
  • Battle: Los Angeles - I so want to proclaim this as the coolest action movie in years, but it teeters too close to Avatar.
  • Cowboys & Aliens - meh.

Considering the abundance of golden material related to the eponymous entertainer, a new section of notthebees.com is devoted to all things CAGE!

Mind you, this is no mockery.  No, in fact we at the site have a deep-rooted appreciation for Sir Nic.  He's everything we think of and want from Hollywood: outrageous, eccentric, and over-the-top.

So, here's to you Mr. Cage.  May your graces flood the pages of this blog for as long I can keep the student loan creditors from seizing my domain name.

Check out THE CAGE CAGE

**Yeah, yeah, the name clearly isn't up there amongst the most clever puns in the world.  But it certainly evokes the bright aura of its subject matter.
